Sky has been commissioned to create poetry for schools, community organisations, charities, arts and writing bodies. Here are a few examples.

Let The City Shine

Sky was commissioned by Newcastle City Council for Holocaust Memorial Day 2021, taking the theme of Be The Light in the Darkness. Moments when we shined a light onto discrimination and prejudice and called it out when we saw it. A film made by Monkfish Associate Artists Andy Berriman.

Her Storm

2019 Sky was commissioned by the British Library and Poet In the City to work on the Collections in Verse project, responding to the Unfinished Business exhibition about the history of protest for women’s rights.

Sky created a collection of poetry and artwork inspired by Spare Rib which published its first issue in 1972 – the year Sky was born.

Nature, Nurture, Future

“We commissioned Sky to present at our event. When she delivered her poetry, I was transfixed. She encapsulated everything the event was about and her performative skill had me speechless. Amongst academic papers and personal testimonies Sky’s poetry was a soft and emotive glue holding together all that we were discussing: children, fears, hopes, aims for our futures.”

Dr. Sheila Quaid, Sunderland University 2019

Poetry as evaluation

Sky was commissioned to write and perform poems for a conference at the Holy Biscuit in Newcastle upon Tyne, involving Shieldfield Art Works, Dwellbeing, and Newcastle University. The event discussed the resident’s concerns about the rapid urban development of the area.

The organisers were so impressed with the poems Sky produced that she was asked to perform them at three further events and her words were made into public artworks by Theresa Easton.
